I agree with all of yesterday's correspondents that Nicola Roxon's attitude to FOI on public money spent by politicians is outrageous. However, you can be sure Australia's prime minister-in-waiting and his attorney-general, George Brandis, will put things right. Tony? George?

It would seem the cat is out of the bag, yet it is hardly
instructive for the public to have access to one minister's expense
record without any ability to compare expense records of those who have
gone before him. So, while individual figures may seem large or
excessive, they do not speak for themselves.
Total disclosure of politician perks would seem the only
proper way of ensuring transparency. Better still, get rid of the perks
and increase the base salary of MPs. Win-win.
